Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) Manufacturer in India
The
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor or MBBR process is based on the aerobic biofilm
principle and it operates on utilizing the advantages of activated sludge and
other biofilm systems without being restrained by their shortcomings. The main
theme of this technology is the biofilm carrier elements that are made from
polythene or plastic. This element provides a large protected surface area for
the biofilm and optimal conditions for the bacteria culture to develop and flourish.
The MBBR system consists of an aeration tank with special plastic carriers that provide a
surface where a bio-film can grow. The carriers are made of a material with a
density close to the density of water. The carriers will be mixed in the tank
by the aeration system and thus will have good contact between the surface
layer in the in-fluent wastewater and the biomass on the carriers. It is
necessary to have a strainer on the outlet of the tank so that the plastic
carriers can be prevented from escaping the aeration. MBBR systems don't need a
recycling of the sludge, which is the case with activated sludge systems. The
MBBR system is often installed as a retrofit of existing activated sludge tanks
to increase the capacity of the existing system. The degree of filling of
carriers can be adapted to the specific situation and the desired capacity.
Thus, an existing treatment plant can increase its capacity without increasing
the footprint by constructing new tanks.
MBBR PROCESS SUMMARY
• Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR) process is based on
the bio-film of organisms developed on carrier elements.
• The media floats in the aeration tank and keeps
floating by air from diffuses which are placed at the bottom of tank.
•The process is intended to enhance the activated
sludge process by providing greater biomass in aeration tank and thus by
reducing volume of the tank.
• After aeration tank, sedimentation tank is
provided for settlement of sloughed biomass
• Clear water clarifier overflows from weir and is
further subjected to disinfection.
Some advantages
compared to activated sludge systems are:
· Higher effective Sludge
Retention Time (SRT) which is favorable for nitrification
·
Process performance
independent of secondary clarifies (because of the fact that there is no sludge
return line)
·
Responds to load
fluctuations without operator intervention
·
Lower sludge
production
·
Less space requirement
·
Resilient to toxic
shock
